Welcome to our second of four check-in and discussion posts for our Book of the Month.
This month’s book is Last Shot by Daniel José Older
Part II
Last Shot Part 2 of 4
1. More enticing clues in this part, but the threads aren't yet tied together. Which thread do you think is most interesting? Which seems the least developed so far?
2. Portraying both younger and older versions of Han and Lando feels like it'd be challenging, especially since we have movies where different actors portray these characters. Not only are you dealing with characters who've aged (and presumably grown and changed along the way), but these are characters who were introduced in the middle of their lives (ie. the original trilogy) who then gained growth and depth as characters by both going older (sequel trilogy) and younger (Solo). Not to mention the myriad of other tie-in material. How does the author's portrayal of these character align with your view of these characters?
3. A few characters are in roles that don't seem stereotypical for their species (Aro and Peekpa). Does this book change or broaden your opinion about any species?
4. What other thoughts do you have? How are you liking it so far?
FYI - There's no need to answer all (or any) of the questions above - they're just talking points to get us started. Informal chatter is more than welcome! In-person book clubs often veer off topic, it's okay if we do as well. :)
All I ask is that you try to avoid spoilers for things past Part II of the book.
