Welcome to our third of four check-in and discussion posts for our Book of the Month.

This month’s book is Master and Apprentice by Claudia Gray
Part 3: Chapters 21-30

Master and Apprentice Part 3

1. Qui-Gon tells them that Halin Azucca's group only managed the non-lethal pranks and protests, but Rael Averross and Captain Deren both seem disinclined to believe him. Why is that?

2. Who are the blackguards?

3. Do you think Qui-Gon will be uninvited from joining the Council after this? Or will he decline?

4. Any predictions for the ending?

FYI - There's no need to answer all (or any) of the questions above - they're just talking points to get us started. Informal chatter is more than welcome! In-person book clubs often veer off topic, it's okay if we do as well. :)
All I ask is that you try to avoid spoilers for things past Part III of the book.

1. I'm not really sure why Averross and Deren are so convinced that it has to be Azucca's group responsible for all of the assorted protests. It could be that they've become fixated on the idea, and just aren't willing to consider another option. Alternatively, maybe they're being fed information or false intelligence from someone else that contradicts what Qui-Gon is telling them. Of maybe Deren is running the blackguards?

2. Given the revelations about how much Evil Company stands to profit from the perpetual slave clause that could become law, I'm inclined to think that it's the company that's running the blackguards. They could be mercenaries?

3. I have the feeling that Qui-Gon's going to find that his view of things is incompatible with being a member of the Council... and I think Obi-wan may play a part in that. Given events in TPM, I'm wondering if Qui-gon's renewed interest in prophecy is going to lead him to decide that he has ideas and concepts to explore that he wouldn't be able to as a member of the Council, because of the time commitments/responsibilities that go with being on that council.

4. There will probably be explosions.

I'm intrigued by the not-Khyber crystals. Using them to make lightsabre-resistant shields for droids is interesting; it seems like the sort of technology that Palpatine might be interested in, because even if it can't be mass-produced, it could be useful for him, or his red guards.

I could be imagining things, but has the author mentioned several times now that Obi-wan has blue eyes?
