I like Star Wars.
I like to read.
I thought I'd put the two together.
FAQThe format is not set in stone, but it's a starting point. We'll see how things go and adjust as needed.

Date: 2021-01-26 03:49 am (UTC)I think this is the series that introduces Doctor Aphra, so it's one I'd certainly be interested in myself.

Date: 2021-01-26 11:13 pm (UTC)Yes, that one intrigues me as well.
How would you recommend structuring a read along for comics? If a novel is a month, would doing a volume per month be comparable? Would a volume per week make more sense? Should I look at doing an issue per post instead?

Date: 2021-01-27 08:58 am (UTC)Another idea could be to have two posts per month, one novel and one comic volume, spaced a few weeks apart, but I'm not sure if that is too much multi-tasking for some readers.

Date: 2021-01-27 01:46 pm (UTC)Well, we're doing a book in 4 parts because that keeps it from just being one post a month - that way people can "read along" in more manageable chunks (and not have to catch up an entire book when the post is made). I wonder if an issue at a time would make more sense? It's how they're initially released in most cases. I don't know if people will want to engage that much though.
And I'll also have to consider what I can keep up with as mod - LOL
Thank you for the input!

Date: 2021-01-27 02:40 pm (UTC)For most of the multi-volume series each volume is six issues long (miniseries like Shattered Empire and the like tend to be 4-5 issues apiece), and could easily be broken up into two posts per volume/3 issues per post.
Personally I find individual issues really short and have a hard time staying invested, but if that's what works for you I'm willing to try!

Date: 2021-01-27 05:06 pm (UTC)And I agree, it's hard to stay engaged when the pace is too slow, and hard to keep up when the pace is too fast. LOL
I suspect the book is being drawn out too long, but wanted to give it a try as book-per-month is pretty common. Then let people weigh in after the first month. Having both a book and comic might make that work better.
So.... it sounds like for comics a volume at a time every 2-3 weeks would be a good place to start. I'll shoot for doing the Vader one starting mid-February.
Thanks again for all your input and for talking back and forth with me on this. I appreciate it!

Date: 2023-07-02 05:21 pm (UTC)I've not bought it yet because most of the books I'd be interested in I already have or have already read. I am interested in how obtaining Kobo ebooks without a Kobo device might work out though.
