Welcome to our last of four check-in and discussion posts for our Book of the Month.

This month’s book is Revan (Star Wars: The Old Republic #1) by Drew Karpyshyn
Chapters 24-29

Revan

1. How were the lightsaber/force-lightning battles portrayed here different than in movies or animated series? How were they similar?

2. The book doesn't end well for the protagonists. What are your thought on how their endings were handled? How does it compare to other story Jedi story arcs?

3. Any other thoughts?

FYI - There's no need to answer all (or any) of the questions above - they're just talking points to get us started. Informal chatter is more than welcome! In-person book clubs often veer off-topic, it's okay if we do as well. :)

Next weekend is COMICS! Come talk about any comics you're reading/have read.
(I'm gong to attempt to finish the Doctor Aphra series we started here.)

1. I don't know a lot about the different types of lightsaber combat, other than that there's one form that someone in a previous book didn't like using because it felt like it was too aggressive and too close to the dark side - and that Dooku was highly proficient in that particular form. I'm also not very well-versed in the animated series (although I donow have S1 and S2 of Rebels to watch) but I don't really have the feeling that the author wanted to go into a lot of detail on the battles. The final fight felt very quick.

2. I feel a bit let down by the ending. I think if I'd played the two KOTOR games, I'd probably be rather disappointed. I don't know if this book is mean to lead into the MMO, with players in the MMO getting to decide Revan's fate, but in all honesty I think this is the book I've enjoyed least out of all the books we've read in the community so far.

I find I'm disappointed that we didn't get any insight into what happened to the Mandalorians after the Mask was found.

I think we've had a pretty good run so far, but this is the first time where I've not got any particular interest in picking up any of the sequels to a novel...

... but I have been reading my way through the comic book adaptations of the Thrawn trilogy, which have been a great palate cleanser ;)
