Welcome to our first of four check-in and discussion posts for our Book of the Month.
This month’s book is Into the Void (Star Wars Legends Novels) by Tim Lebbon
Chapters 1-5
Into the Void
1. Taking a look at the chonological order this book is supposedly set in, this is the earliest of any Star Wars material. This is also among the last published as 'Legends' material (10 years ago now). As such, the only tie-ins appear to be a series of comics. Does the lack of connection to other movies/books/comics/games detract from or add to your engagement so far?
2. What do you think of Lanoree Brock? Of the Je'daii Rangers?
3. How are you liking it so far?
FYI - There's no need to answer all (or any) of the questions above - they're just talking points to get us started. Informal chatter is more than welcome! In-person book clubs often veer off-topic, it's okay if we do as well. :)
All I ask is that you try to avoid spoilers for things past Part I of the book.

Date: 2023-06-04 10:50 pm (UTC)2. I think Lanoree is an interesting protagonist so far. Part of me feels she's so young, but that could be the jumps to her childhood training bleeding into my perception of her.
The Je'daii Rangers and whole outfit seem almost like a cult. I feel for her brother Dal who seems to simply want nothing to do with the Force. I don't think this is the intent and I fully expect my opinion to change as the book goes along. But right now I'm getting the impression that she's been fed this story by her family and community about the Je'daii and her place in it while perhaps the rest of the society doesn't feel the Je'daii are quite so noble.
Anyway, the politics of this system are still unfolding, but it seems interesting and I'm wondering how far Lanoree is going to veer off the path her elders have set for her.
3. I'm liking it! Despite Twi'lek and Wookies showing up, and the random Sith police chief, it feels very removed from the Star Wars universe in general - which isn't bad, just different.
