Welcome to our second of four check-in and discussion posts for our Book of the Month.
This month’s book is Into the Void (Star Wars Legends Novels) by Tim Lebbon
Chapters 6-10
Into the Void
1. What are your thoughts on Tre? How are the different sides of his personality impacting the story so far?
2. How does the training (in flashbacks) of Lanoree and Dal compare to your impression of other Jedi training?
3. What are your impressions of the toxic planet, Nox, and its history?
4. Anything else?
FYI - There's no need to answer all (or any) of the questions above - they're just talking points to get us started. Informal chatter is more than welcome! In-person book clubs often veer off-topic, it's okay if we do as well. :)
All I ask is that you try to avoid spoilers for things past Part II of the book.
Thank you to both

3. An extreme example of some sort of cautionary tale about our climate crisis?
4. I'm enjoying the mystery surrounding what the Stargazers are really looking for and all the bits about the ancient stuff. I hope the next section dives more into that.

Date: 2023-06-13 09:24 am (UTC)2. The text wants me to believe that Lanoree is one of those Je'daii trainees wtih a lot of potential, and it seems incongrous that the way to get between the various training temples is to hike through various different types of dangerous wilderness. I'm not sure if it's meant to demonstrate that Je'daii training is harsher than the jedi training of the future, but it seems wasteful to runthe risk of having trainees die before ever gettnig to their first training temple. I do like that the different temples are in very different environments and are all distinct from each other, training in different ways. I wish I could remember how many different temples there are from the comics, but it's a reasonably substantial number from what I can remember.
3. My first thought while reading about Nox was how much it sounded like one of the worlds the Empire gleefully tore apart for resources in the prequel to Rogue One we read some months ago. I'm not sure if I'm meant to believe that it happened because the Je'daii weren't around to stop it, or that the Je'daii aren't actually that bothered about it because it isn't Tython.
4. I'm finding the mentions of Gree technology to be interesting, particularly as they evidently predate the more recent colonisation of Tython by eons. We seem to be on a small run of books where xenoarchaeology could be playing a significant part of the plot...
ETA: I've just bought the Humble Books bundle, at it requires redeeming the books on Kobo, which I hadn't anticipated, and I'm still working out if I can cownload them to read offline in Kindle/Google Play Books or if I'm going to have to install another app on my phone to get at them.
