February - Theme - New Release (published in the 20's)

This month will be a themed month. The idea is to read any Star Wars book you'd like that can be applied to the theme. The material can be anything - adult, YA, comics, even story-centric games.

1. Have you started reading your chosen book? If so, how's it going?

I've started my book, which is a bit shorter than I'd expected - although, to be honest, that's kind of nice because it feels like I'm doing more reading than I actually am.

Race to Crashpoint Tower feels very much like it's aimed at a younger audience - all of the characters are young, the Jedi Masters are conspicuous by their absence, and the Padawans (and one very young Knight) are doing things and solving problems. There's not a lot of subtle machinations going on; the problems are immediate - get a message out, get out of a certain location, etc. I'm enjoying it, particularly the droid who gets some unconventional upgrades...

I'm also finding that this is filling some of the gaps in the other novel that I read about the attack on the fair, because it's giving perspectives from minor characters who were mentioned in the other novel but didn't get page time. Unfortunately, it also doesn't appear to be the first novel to focus on the majority of these minor characters, so I'm still behind the curve...

I used this site to extrapolate the Adult and Y.A. order in which we were reading the books here in this community. This puts The Fallen Star by Claudia Gray next.

There are a TON of other material interspersed though - graphic novels, comics, short stories, junior reader books, etc.
It is an overwhelming amount of material to consume if you're trying to get the full picture.

Thank you for the site link - looking at it, I have oneof the earlier books I hadn't worked out is earlier in the canon timeline than the one I'm reading now. The reading order is a mess, though. I mean, I can read some of the High Republic comics on Marvel Unlimited, but not any of the High Republic Adventures comics, despite the High Republic Adventure comics being earlier in the timeline.

I started listening to the Queen's Peril audiobook today and I very much missed the Star Wars audiobooks with their sound effects. They're just enough to feel StarWarsy but not enough to be overwhelming. ♥

The narrator took me a chapter or two to settle into, but that's a preference thing. Padmé is so very young in this book. Ironically, we don't even have anything from her POV yet.

Is it definitely a prequel to the book we read in the group? Is R2 still Padme's faithful astromech retainer?

It is definitely a prequel - she's just won the election to become Queen (and the other book she'd just won the election to be Senator - which was after Queen).

I'm not far enough along to know if R2 is in it yet. I hope he is!
